THE COOPS HISTORY

 


1999
• The COOP co-produced an original play ACCEPTING THE PALE by Nathan Hamilton.
• Produced a Gala Fundraiser like no other and retired 1/3 of the build-out costs for the Black Box.
• Produced, wrote and directed Holly Jolly COOP-MAS benefit show for the Hollygrove Orphanage. Raised 1,300.00 in cash and another 2500.00 in gifts.

2000
• Created and produced three episodes of the original stage serial THE ONE BOOTH JOINT.
• Wrote and produced the critically acclaimed one act festival “Creatures of Habit”.

2001
• Presented three more episodes of THE ONE BOOTH JOINT.
• Produced COOP member Matt Winch’s full-length play BOY, GIRL, BOY, GIRL, which was placed on the “LA Weekly’s” Recommended List and was selected for the Edge of the World Theatre Festival.

2002
• Announced our first full season and doubled the membership by officially transforming the Coop from a Workshop Company to a Repertory.
• Produced DEFINED BY FIVE, a compilation of three one-act plays by Corey Shane Love.
• Produced Project 24, a one-hour play created and produced by The COOP Theatre Company in a 24-hour “lock in” period.
• Successfully mounted two brand new episodes of THE ONE BOOTH JOINT.
• Concluded the year with the spectacular ONE BOOTH JOINT MARATHON. The Marathon raised over $3,200 for Hollygrove Children’s Home and was chosen as Pick of the Week by the “LA Weekly”.

2003

• Produced main stage production of our critically acclaimed One-Act Festival, CREATURES OF HABIT II.
• Produced seven new episodes of ONE BOOTH JOINT.
• Produced main stage production of CHAIN OF FOOLS, A COOP Collage.
• Presented several workshop productions.
• Concluded the year with ONE BOOTH JOINT MARATHON II.


2004

• Presented works created in our Company Workshop, including special projects, such as IT’S ABOUT LOVE.
• Presented workshop production of a new play in development, SEPARATIST LOVE MOVEMENT.
• Developed and produced CROWN OF MINOS, based on the myth of The Minotaur, and developed in workshop by Company members.
• Produced seven new episodes of ONE BOOTH JOINT.

2005

• Began development of several new plays in our writer’s workshop with sights on producing a One-Act Festival, CREATURES OF HABIT III in the Spring of 06.

• Presented workshop production of FUTURE OF BEING TRAPPED by member Daryl Holmes.
• Produced an original Christmas play, THE CHRISTMAS PRINCESS by Arthur Jolly.
• Produced seven new episodes of ONE BOOTH JOINT.
• Concluded the year with a main stage FINAL Episode of ONE BOOTH JOINT.
• Began collaboration with writers and actors on a new play to be presented in the Spring of 06.

2006

• Produced Bag of Doughnuts, a comedy review blending sketch and improvisation.
• Instituted a monthly Saturday night Theatre Jam presenting music, dramatic works in progress and improvised scenes
• Produced Book Club, a sketch comedy show based on famous works of literature including George Bush in iambic pentameter, a combination of Edgar Allan Poe and uncontrollable flatulence and the first all lesbian Moby Dick.
• Presented I Shoulda Eaten My Peas and Carrots, a collection of theatrical pieces on personal regret written and performed by members of the playwrights workshop. This was a very in depth collaboration headed by Associate Member, Bill Hyatt.
• Revived The Immaculate Contraception, the Christmas episode of The One Booth Joint featuring dancing bartenders, pregnant prostitutes and a gun-totin’ Santa. “Immaculate’s” revival was a smash-hit, sell-out and featured an all-star cast of Coopsters and Special-guest Artists!
